Description
As the heron flew over I wondered if she would manage to land on the iced-over pond, but found her perched on the railing of the Boardwalk with a wistful look.
Though the ice prevents her from foraging for salamanders, frogs, and the small fish that inhabit the pond, herons also will spear rodents for their meal. Photographer pals have images of herons having captured small muskrats.
