The Great Horned Owls at the Nisqually NWR are the first to have young. Usually hatching their eggs sometime in January.
Our first signs that Spring really is on its way.
It is an exciting time for all of us who work at or visit the Refuge to see the little ones. Often we don't know which nest has been chosen for the year, until we see the young.
Digitally enhanced photograph of our Great Horned Owlet trio at the Nisqually NWR, born this past January.

3rd place in Birds of Prey Contest.
